NEW MULTI-TRADE APPRENTICESHIP DEVELOPED BY HOUSING ASSOCIATION

Neath-based housing association Tai Tarian is partnering up with NPTC Group of Colleges to develop a new apprenticeship framework.
The move comes following demands by tenants for a "first-time fix" rather than multiple visits by different tradesmen to complete a task prompted.

The Maintenance Multi-Trade Apprenticeship is designed to meet the needs of the maintenance industry and Tai Tarian says the new apprenticeship has increased productivity, reduced costs, and encouraged employees to work smarter.

Minister sees local benefits of Skills for Industry investment

Skills for Industry (SFI) is supported by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government, and aims to increase the skills levels of employed individuals by supporting the delivery of training through a wide range of courses and qualifications.

The project, in the past three years alone, has benefitted over 5700 learners and 1500 employers in the South West Wales region and continues to go from strength to strength.

GOOD NEWS STORY FOR SKILLS FOR INDUSTRY QCF HEALTH AND SOCIAL CARE WORKER

A 27 years old learner from Neath Port Talbot College, was taken through her Level 2 QCF Health and Social Care Diploma, under the Skills for Industry project,  she was registered in May 2014 and completing by the end of December 2014, taking a total of 5 months to complete.
 
The learner works for Carers Trust Swansea Bay, formerly known as Crossroads Care based in Swansea. Carers Trust mission statement is:-
 

Demonstrable Support to Participants

The Skills for Industry project continues to provide positive and demonstrable support to participants in employment.
With the assistance of Pembrokeshire College, this is one example of how the SFI project is helping the workforce based in Pembrokeshire.
 
"Although the student finished some months ago, one of my security people at Fishguard ferry port was 37 at the time with a self-declared reading age of 12 as a result of severe dyslexia.

Energy Centre officially opened

GCS Training has officially opened a brand new Energy Centre at its new Hill House site.

Julie James, Deputy Minister for Skills and Technology, was among the special guests at the launch event. The Minister was shown around the fully refurbished facilities and saw first-hand how the centre will deliver state-of-the-art training courses for the electrical, gas and plumbing trades.
